Our Story
Since 1948, the Steinbach Curling Club has been a cornerstone of the local community – bringing curlers of all ages and skill levels together under one roof. Whether you’re new to the game or a seasoned skip, you’ll feel at home on our ice.
Located in a modern, fully accessible facility, we offer league play, bonspiels, rentals, and a licensed lounge space for post-game socials and special events. With one of Manitoba’s most experienced ice technicians and some of the best ice around, our club is proud to provide a top-tier curling experience in a warm, welcoming environment.

HISTORY
🥌 Origins & Early Years (1948–1963)
- 1948: The first curling rink was built in Steinbach—a 4-sheet facility that marked the beginning of organized curling in the community
- 1963: The club officially incorporated as the Steinbach Curling Club, Ltd. .
🥌 Growth, Renovation & Champions (1963–1996)
- Throughout the following decades, the club expanded its leagues to include men’s, women’s, mixed, junior, senior, and stick curling
- 1992: Club legends Vic Peters and Chris Neufeld—who learned the sport locally—captured the Brier title and represented Canada at the 1992 Worlds.
🥌 Hosting Provincials & Community Roots (2006–2010)
- The club hosted the provincial Safeway Men’s Curling Championships in 2006 and again in 2010, showcasing its regional significance
🥌 Big Changes: “Goodbye Bonspiel” & Rebuild (2014)
- In April 2014, the original 1948 rink was demolished following a farewell “Goodbye Bonspiel”
- The new five-sheet facility, adjacent to the T.G. Smith Arena and upcoming Southeast Event Centre, officially opened in October 2014
🥌 Modern Era: Growth, Accessibility & Junior Focus (2018–2024)
- The club is fully wheelchair-accessible, features an elevator, and hosts a wide range of leagues (men’s, women’s, mixed, junior, senior, stick)
- In 2023, a grant allowed the purchase of new half-weight junior rocks, fostering youth participation (rising from 13 to over 30 juniors in one season)
- The 2023–24 season saw a 25% rise in clubs’ member teams, especially in Friday-night fun and junior leagues
🥌 Hosting Major Events & Looking Ahead (2025–Present)
- The club hosted the curling portion of the Manitoba 55+ Games in spring 2025
- Excitement is building for January 2026, when the Grand Slam of Curling will take place in Steinbach’s new Southeast Event Centre, with enthusiastic support from the club and its volunteers
